Top boxing promoter Rodney Berman once again wants to extend his helping hand to the needy.
He will auction two highly- prized items before the start of his "Lords of the Ring" boxing extravaganza at Emperors Palace tonight with the intention of raising more than R100 000.
Berman, who staged a beneficiary box-and-dine tournament for Anthony "Blue Jaguar" Morodi, Enoch "Schoolboy" Nhlapo, Levi "Golden Boy" Madi, Simon "Tsipa" Skosana as well as retired promoter Joe Gumede in March, said the money will be distributed among six charity organisations that Golden Gloves and Emperors Palace have chosen.
The charities are Butterfly Kidz (it provides the handicapped and disadvantaged with dignity through opportunity and a productive means of earning salaries for their work), The Childrens Ward of the Johannesburg Hospital (most of whom are in a critical condition), United Celebral Palsy Organisation (young children and adults who are in dire need), Boys and Girls Town (an organisation that caters for needs of disadvantaged and disruptive backgrounds), St Lawrence Childrens Home (assist and care for abandoned and abused children) and the African Community Feeding Scheme (provides food daily for 18 000 children).
Items to be auctioned are the framed panoramic view of the recent Rugby World Cup final in France which features South Africa and England signing their respective national anthems.
There is also a philatelic history of the presidential inauguration in the nineties with a once-off first day cover and a R5 coin signed by both former presidents FW De Klerk and Nelson Mandela.
