"We will spread the protest action to all other 2010 projects so that the message is loud and clear. Companies have agreed to pay only R500 for project bonuses over three months, and we want R1500 a month," NUM's regional coordinator Bonginkosi Mncwabe said.

Workers at the stadium embarked on a strike last week. They demanded project bonuses, the appointment of a health and safety inspector on site and that companies comply with the civil engineering industry hourly rate of R11,09.

"Some were only on R6 an hour. We have agreed an increment, but they refuse to increase bonuses or appoint the inspector on site," said Mncwabe. - Sapa
