As Athletics Gauteng North has pleaded for more media coverage as it prepares to announce its team for the national championships in Germiston, the organisation .

The Interprovincial tournament, which takes place on November 27, will see athletes aged between seven and 10 years old compete against each other in the youth and sub-youth category. But AGN development officer Jappie Modibane said coverage of these events is usually minimal.

Modibane said this was a pity, because these meetings form the foundation on which tomorrow's superstars are nurtured.

l Nelspruit Marathon Club athlete Samuel Makamo is a pre-race favourite for the Kaapsehoop three-in-one race billed for Nelspruit tomorrow.

Makamo assumes the mantle because last year's top three finishers, Sipho Ngomane (Mr Price), Doctor Mtsweni and Ntuthuko Maseko (both from Harmony) are in poor form.

Ngomane, who won the Comrades Marathon two years ago, failed to complete the Nedbank Soweto Marathon last Sunday while Maseko and Mtsweni have not been impressive.
