The Limpopo department of education has set aside R63million to remunerate teachers selected to mark this year's matric examination papers.
Departmental spokesman Ndo Mangala said yesterday they had completed the process of selecting the teachers. He said 4520 teachers of those who taught grade 12 in the province's five districts had been selected.
Some of the money will be used for other logistics.
The selection process began early this month and marking will start as soon as matriculants have completed writing their examinations, said Mangala.
"Teachers were selected according to their expertise. The money will be used to ensure that the marking sessions run smoothly," he said.
Mangala said examinations would be completed on November 21 and marking would start two days later.
"We anticipate finishing marking in two weeks' time. December 4 is actually the deadline for marking," he said.
Mangala said a total of 16 centres would be used throughout the province for marking.
"One centre would be used for the marking of Adult Basic Education and Training papers while the other 15 would be used for full and part time pupils," Mangala said.
He says the province hopes to improve on last year's dismal performance.
