Jabu Nzima, a former PSL assistant referee who has been appointed as a referees' assessor in Mpumalanga, is looking to promote more referees from the province to the Premiership.

Nzima will be working with Boy Mashego, who was serving as the lone referees' assessor in the province for the past five years.

His appointment came after he completed a six-day referees' workshop at the Pretoria High Performance Center in October.

Nzima, who officiated for five years in the elite league, retired last year at the age of 47.

Mpumalanga only has Peter Mabuza officiating in the Premiership.

"My job will be about assessing referees in the regional league [SAB] and the provincial league [Vodacom]," said Nzima. "I will be assessing them using our seven guidelines.

"After assessing them, we will recommend some of the best referees to the referees' provincial and national technical committee for them to be considered for promotion."
