A KwaZulu-Natal teenage mother cried tears of joy when she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl at KwaHlabisa Hospital last week.

Little did she know that her daughter would be stolen from her a few hours after she was discharged from hospital.

Lindiwe Ngomezulu, 17, was on her way home after she had been discharged on Thursday night when the incident happened.

A woman she was sitting next to in the taxi from the hospital offered to hold her baby while she went shopping for shoes at a nearby shop.

When she came out of the shop, the woman was nowhere to be seen with her newborn baby, together with bags full of baby clothes and food.

Now, the young mother has told Sowetan she was terrified of what her baby's father would do to her.

She said her baby's father had angrily dropped the phone on her when she called to inform him that the child had gone missing.

Mngomezulu said her baby's father told her to also disappear if the baby was not found by the time he returned home next month.

"I am having nightmares, I desperately want her to bring my baby back," the teenage mom said.
