The ANC is not worried about the volatile situation at the University of Limpopo, where it will hold its national conference to appoint new leaders next month.
The university expelled 30 students on Thursday who it accused of causing chaos during protests against fee increases last week.
Students burnt tyres and damaged the library, administration block, dining halls and three cars.
ANC spokesman Tiyani Rhikotso said the party was confident that the university would be able to provide dele- gates with the facilities they needed for a successful conference. "We hope that students and management will settle their dispute in an amicable way for the sake of education," he said.
South African Students Congress president David Maimela said he hoped that the situation would propel the ANC to discuss problems in education.
"It is an unfortunate situation, but as Sasco, we are grateful that the protests set a tone at the place were a conference of the ruling party will be held. We hope that when the ANC discusses the challenges facing the country, the problems in higher learning institutions will be on the agenda," said Maimela.
