Two Johannesburg car dealerships have been hit by con artists.

Sihle Makhanya is alleged to have gone to two dealerships where he disappeared with vehicles after requesting to test drive the expensive cars.

It is alleged that on August 17, Makhanya went to an Audi delearship in Midrand, Johannesburg and asked to test drive an Audi Q7.

He never returned the car.

Makhanya, believed to be the mastermind behind defrauding car dealerships, struck again two weeks later when he pulled the same trick at a BMW dealership, this time in Sandton.

Police spokesman Sergeant Sanku Tsunke said: "The man was given a BMW X5 and did not return it."

He said the two dealerships opened cases with the police who recovered the two vehicles in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni where two of Makhanya's accomplices were arrested.

It is believed that Makhanya lived at the address where the men were arrested.

Police said that they have not received similar complaints from other car delearships.

He is believed to be in Johannesburg or Pretoria and is using false identities.

Tsunke asked that anyone with information on Makhanya's whereabouts should contact their nearest police station.
