A 14-year-old KwaZulu Natal teenager was arrested in connection with murder on Wednesday after he allegedly stabbed another teenager to death over 40 cents, police said yesterday.
Police spokesman Captain Jabulani Mdletshe said the teenager approached the 17-year-old at a local tuckshop, asking him for 40 cents to buy vetkoek.
"According to information, the deceased claimed he did not have money.
"They then left the tuckshop," Mdletshe said.
At the Ntsana Nature Reserve in KwaMsane, the teenager is said to have stabbed the teenager once in the neck and ran off.
The injured teenager stumbled back to the tuckshop to ask for help.
"On arrival at the shop, he fell down and died," Mdletshe said.
Police believed the two had been arguing over the 40 cents.
The 14-year-old was found hiding at his sister's home nearby.
He was arrested and was expected to appear in the KwaMsane magistrate's court late on Thursday, police said. - Sapa
