Set to be staged throughout the holidays, TheJungle Book begins its run from November 5.
Instead of getting under their parents' hair or being up to mischief, children can now be shepherded to the People's Theatre in a family outing and celebration that should bring a smile to their faces.
Written by 1907 Nobel prize-winner Rudyard Kipling , The Jungle Book offers a universal appeal that keeps it returning to stages all over the world to steadfast acclaim.
Kids can look forward to the adventure of orphan man-cub Mowgli. They will be captivated by a journey jam-packed with adventure.
Set against the backdrop of a beautiful new set by Marius Boshoff, Mowgli sets out on a journey through the jungle to the man-village. He is accompanied by the wise black panther Bahgeera and the lovable bear Baloo.
He encounters a host of animal friends and foes. You'll meet the band of marching elephants, the hypnotic snake Kaa, and see how Mowgli uses his wit and courage to overcome his nemesis, the sly and cunning tiger Shere Khan. The authenticity of this timeless tale is enhanced by a group of more than 20 child actors who perform alongside professional actors. A contemporary music flavour incorporates age-old evergreen favourites, flanked by a host of carefully selected new songs that add to the production's appeal across all generations.
Highlighting the importance of friendship, loyalty and trust, the story is brought to life with crafted costumes by Linda Wilson and meticulous casting, staging and direction by Jill Girard and Keith Smith. The Jungle Book runs at the People's Theatre from November 5 to December 24. Performances on weekdays are at 9am and 11am and at 10.30am and 2.30pm on Saturdays and public holidays.
Tickets cost R75 for non-members, Kids Club members pay R50 while accompanying audience members pay R65.
