The Old Mutual, SABC and Sowetan Community Builder of the Year Award is a nation-building project conceived by Sowetan's late former editor-in-chief Aggrey Klaaste in 1991.

It encourages the recognition and acknowledgement of men and women who unselfishly give their time and talent to improve the quality of life of others in their communities.

It also shows - through the national finalists' fine youth and community development projects and programmes - how the efforts of volunteers serve to motivate and inspire others to become part of the nation-building process.

In August, 12 finalists from the youth, adult, senior and group categories were selected from the 36 provincial winners. The 2007 finalists are: Senior section winners - Leah Dlomo of Limpopo, Gauteng's Maria Manoto and Northern Cape's Maria Farmer.Adult category winners - Noriah Mabunda of Limpopo, Gauteng's Sabina Khoza and Free State's Tlalane Mofokeng.Youth section winners - Stuart Nhlathi of North West, Limpopo's Mafemani Mabunda and KZN's Mthokozi Mchunu.Group category winners - Motsilu Boima of Limpopo, Free State's Adrina Ramonotshi and Eastern Cape's Nosibongile Jobela.

Four separate category winners will be selected from the 12 finalists. The overall national winner will be selected from the category winners. The overall category winners and one overall winner will be honoured at the Sandton Convention Centre on December 6. - Victor Mecoamere
