The Modjadji royal council, under the tutelage of Prince Mpapatla Modjadji, have joined hands with Limpopo MEC for safety and security Ratshivhanda Ndou in a bid to fight crime in the rural areas of the province.

Modjadji and Ndou met at the royal kraal on Saturday and proceeded to the Mokwakwaila sate-llite police station near Modjadjiskloof where a crime awareness campaign was held.

The affected communities indicated that contact crime such as murder, housebreaking, assault and rapes were on the increase . The recent killing of a Balobedu female chief, Mohlago Ramothwala, was cited as an example.

Residents told Ndou and Modjadji that they were living in fear of either being killed or robbed of their valuables by those who are roaming the streets with unlicensed firearms.

"If all firearms could be taken away from criminals, Limpopo would be a province free from crime where everyone will live without fear," said Mamatome Molokwane, a villager whose daughter was gang-raped recently.

Ndou told villagers that his department was going to work against the clock to make sure that no crime prevailed in the area.
