The B3 Prosperity fundraising golf day that will be played at the Benoni Lake Country Club on Wednesday is bound to be one of the entertaining events this week.

The purpose of the tournament is to raise funds for the Stimulation Centre in KwaThema that houses mentally disabled children.

Sekutu Mogafe, spokesman for the event, said they hope to raise a substantial amount to demolish the centre and rebuild a proper school for these needy children.

Mogafe said in the first year they raised R90 000, which they used to buy land from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan. The second year they built a brick wall around the centre and electrified the place.

Last year they purchased a bus to transport these children to and from their respective homes.

"A golf event is the only way to raise funds for children from disadvantaged communities. This time we're optimistic we will see our dreams come true by raising funds that can help us to build a new school.

"We've received a good number of sponsors and the occasion will also be graced by members of parliament in Andrew Mlangeni and Bantu Holomisa, who are our patrons," he said.

Former world flyweight and junior flyweight champion Jacob "Baby Jake" Matlala and the Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor Duma Nkosi are expected to attend.
