Welkom to host games

Free State MEC for sport, arts and culture Ace Magashule is hosting the third round of the OR Tambo games in Welkom from October 26-28.

The purpose of these games is to promote mass participation in sport. Participants will take part in 13 sporting codes.

These range from athletics, indigenous games and football, to rugby, tennis and many others. The primary target audience is young boys and girls, and people with disabilities.

The games is in celebration of the struggle icon, Oliver Reginald Tambo, who was born on October 27, 1917.

We have invited Dr Kenneth Kaunda to share with our youth, the dynamism of this leader, his teachings and specifically his messages and wishes for the youth of South Africa," said Magashule.

"He will deliver a memorial lecture on the birthday of OR."

All enquiries should be directed to the executive director, sport and recreation, at 082-909-2842.
