Four men who allegedly held up staff at a gift shop on the corner of President and Korte streets will appear in the Johannesburg magistrate's court today.

Four men who allegedly held up staff at a gift shop on the corner of President and Korte streets will appear in the Johannesburg magistrate's court today.

The suspects, aged between 21 and 28, are facing charges of armed robbery.

Police spokesman Sergeant Sanku Tsunke said the men robbed Vanits Gift Shop at 5pm on Wednesday. Two of them were armed.

They fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, workers' wallets, cellphones and watches, said Tsunke.

It is alleged that after the robbery, the suspects went to a tavern on the corner of Jeppe and Sauer streets.

"The shop owner alerted the police and led them to the tavern where the suspects were arrested," said Tsunke.

Police managed to recover the loot. -Sapa
