Accomplished mentors Mzimasi Mnguni and Nick Durandt will once again be opposite each other when their fighters Mfundo Gwayana and Simphiwe Mabona collide for the vacant SA junior flyweight title.

This will definitely be a battle of supremacy between the two powerhouses that have produced the most national, international and world champions than any other trainer locally.

Mnguni, who doubles up as a promoter under the banner of Eyethu Promotions, will stage this fight at the Orient Theatre in East London on November 4, just after he and Durandt appear before Boxing SA's disciplinary hearing.

It is alleged that they nearly came to blows two weeks ago after a boxing match between their charges Irvin Buhlalu and Benedict Dlamini at the same venue.

Durandt was unhappy about referee Lulama Mtya's handling of that fight.

Seemingly, Mtya failed to stamp his authority on the fight by not docking a point from Buhlalu for constantly holding Dlamini when the latter seemed to be gaining the upper hand.

It is also alleged that Durandt insulted Buhlalu shortly after the verdict had favoured the Durban-based champion.

Mnguni and Durandt are former allies who used to assist each other in their corners during fights.

Durandt's fighter Philip Ndou helped Mnguni's charge, Mbulelo Botile with sparring before Botile ended Paul Ingle's career in 2002.

Botile knocked the Englishman out towards the end of the 12th round. Ingle remained on the canvas for several minutes before being removed from the ring on a stretcher and was taken to hospital where he underwent surgery to remove a blood clot from the brain. He retired after recovering.

It was the departure of Mnguni's fighters Hawk Makepula and Mhikiza Myekeni to Durandt's stable that turned them into rivals. It has been a cold war since.

Both Gwayana and Mabona are from Mdantsane. They defeated Samora Msophi and Johnny Oliphant in July to qualify to fight for the vacant title.

The title was relinquished by Muvhuso Nedzanani after winning the WBF title.
