Hayes SA tour suffers last minute setback

The much-awaited Isaac Hayes tour of South Africa has been cancelled at the last minute.

The tour was scheduled to start yesterday at Birchwood Hotel, Boksburg, with a fund-raising corporate dinner.

But the organisers are tight-lipped over the surprise move that will disappoint many of his local fans. The organisers' spokesman Lucas Mahlakgane said the show was not cancelled but merely postponed.

Sowetan has learnt that the organisers and sponsors are squabbling over who should pay a R400000 increase in the cost of the tour.

Hayes and his crew of 19 have also been involved in a dispute with the organisers over air tickets, which had not been bought two days before the first show was scheduled.

"Black Chip Entertainment would like to apologise for the inconvenience.

"The new date for the show will be announced in due time. People who bought tickets through Computicket are urged to hold on to them as they will be valid for the show.

"The tour was postponed for logistical reasons," Mahlakgane said.

He could not say what the logistical problems were, saying an explanation would be given today.
