President Thabo Mbeki's misgivings about the names of our national teams were received with mixed feelings in Limpopo yesterday.
Oupa Maboela, 51, from Ivy Park, Polokwane, said: "I think President Mbeki is right to suggest that the names should be changed to suit our national teams.
"To start with, the name Bafana Bafana came from a sports writer of a particular publication and was endorsed without consultation," he said.
Anthony Maguga, 39, of Shayandima begged to differ.
"There is nothing wrong with the names. All we need to do is improve the performances of our national teams and let the names remain," he said.
His sentiments were echoed by Seun Ndini, 29, from Kopermyn in GaMaja, who "saw absolutely nothing wrong with the names".
Herbert Gololo of Thokgoaneng, Lebowakgomo, said "there is nothing wrong with the names. The teams must improve their performances".
