Woman left legless after Bokke victory

Police were yesterday looking for a man who drove over a woman during the Rugby World Cup celebrations in Sunnyside, Pretoria.

Police were yesterday looking for a man who drove over a woman during the Rugby World Cup celebrations in Sunnyside, Pretoria.

The woman lost both her legs in the accident.

Spokesman Inspector Paul Ramaloko said the woman, in her 20s, was ran over on Saturday night after the Springboks' triumph over England.

"So far, we cannot elaborate on the extent of her injuries - just that she lost her legs in the incident," he said, adding that police did not have the name of the woman.

Ramaloko said a crowd took to the streets to celebrate the victory, and that there was a car spinning when the woman was knocked down. The car cut off her legs.

Police were investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving.

Another woman was also seriously injured during the celebrations. - Sapa
