This season's Telkom Knockout is bound to be one of the most exciting competitions, with players vying for the cash incentives on offer.
Most of the league's hot shots will be gunning for the top goal scorer of the tournament award, and the R150 000 prize that goes with it.
But they will have to score a minimum of five goals or more in this tournament to be eligible for the award.
Though the race for that award has begun with three players already on two goals each - Katlego Mphela of SuperSport United, Anthony Laffor of Jomo Cosmos and Mamelodi Sundowns' Lerato Chabangu - that does not mean they are the only challengers.
The competition's sponsorship and advertising executive, Zikie Molusi, said the incentives could motivate players and keep them focused.
"The incentives are likely to bring much more excitement to the game.
"It will also create curiosity among the fans and supporters. Scoring goals is a motivating factor and it also brings some consistency to the team," said Molusi.
Chabangu has scored two goals in the early stages of the league, Mphela one and Laffor has not registered a goal yet.
Laffor and Mphela each proved themselves when Cosmos and United registered 2-1 away victories over Bidvest Wits University and Santos.
A week before that, Sundowns' Chabangu was the leading scorer after rattling the net twice as the Brazilians crushed Lamontville Golden Arrows with a 3-0 drubbing.
But Free State Stars striker Diyo Sibisi is another player to watch in this category.
Sibisi, Ea Lla Koto's mainstay and leading goal scorer in the league, has not registered a goal in this tournament.
He missed out when he was not fielded in their game against Ajax Cape Town.
At the age of 25, the KwaZulu-Natal-born striker from Sahlume village has proved to be a tough competitor, and his six league goals make him the current leading goal scorer in the Premiership.
Though he has not netted in this lucrative competition, Sibisi was nominated as Jet Club PSL rookie of the month for October and lifted the top goal scorer award with 19 goals while Stars were still plying their trade in the National First Division.
The winner of this award stands a chance of increasing the R150000 at stake to R250000 should he score a hat trick in the final on December 1.
