Four of the five men arrested in connection with the brutal killing of reggae star Lucky Dube are expected to appear in the Johannesburg magistrate's court today.

They face charges of murder, attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and stolen property.

The murder and attempted murder case against the fifth suspect has been withdrawn after police failed to link him to the crimes.

But he still faces a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and stolen property.

Police spokesman Superintendent Eugene Opperman said there was no evidence linking the fifth suspect to the killing of Dube.

"He is still in police custody because he faces separate charges. He will appear in court to face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and stolen property," said Opperman.

The five men, aged between 31 and 35, were arrested on Sunday morning at Spruitview in Ekurhuleni. During the arrest police recovered two handguns and four stolen vehicles.

Dube was shot dead on Thursday night in what appeared to be a botched hijacking. The incident happened while he was dropping off his two children at his brother's house in Rossettenville, Johannesburg.
