Pick 'n Pay is offsetting the carbon emissions generated at the hypermarket by sponsoring 3250 trees for the Trees for Homes element of the Greening of Soweto Towards 2010 project, operated by greening organisation Food and Trees for Africa.
Johannesburg City Parks is also planting trees along roads and in parks.
The project aims to plant 200000 trees in Soweto in time for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. As part of this process, the company has started to monitor the carbon footprint of its direct activities, and has reported publicly on its CO² emissions. - Staff Reporter - Staff Reporter
