Mystery surrounds the non-appearance in court yesterday of a Limpopo police captain accused of conspiring to murder her husband.
Christina Molokomme, 39, was arrested in December last year for the botched plot to murder her husband, Philly - a member of the Pretoria Scorpions.
She was scheduled to appear in the Polokwane regional court yesterday to be given a trial date.
Molokomme is still a patient at the Thabamoopo Psychiatric Hospital. She was admitted to the hospital in January on her lawyer's recommendation.
During court proceedings yesterday, her name was repeatedly called for her to take the stand, but she was nowhere to be seen. Nor was her lawyer present to explain the reason for her non-appearance.
The magistrate then put the matter aside hoping that Molokomme would ultimately turn up.
When this did not happen, the matter was postponed, in her absence, to November 16, when an inquiry will be heldto verify if she is fit to stand trial.
It is alleged that four doctors who have examined her so far have indicated in their reports that she is indeed mentally fit to stand trial.
A court official told Sowetan yesterday that a warrant would be issued for Molokomme's arrest for her failure to appear in court, "but that the warrant would be held over until her next court appearance".
Molokomme was arrested last year after the two men she had allegedly hired to kill her husband informed the police about the alleged plot.
At the time of the alleged crime she was attached to the Polokwane police station.
