A container truck ploughed into six vehicles stopped at a robot in Louis Botha Avenue, Johannesburg, yesterday , leaving 18 people hurt, said ER24.

Spokesman Werner Vermaak said the 20-ton truck was heading in the direction of Houghton Drive when it hit a traffic queue before 7pm.

Among the vehicles were a Hi-Ace taxi carrying ten passengers and a police bakkie from the Hillbrow police station.

Vermaak said 18 people were treated on the scene, but only four were taken to hospital - including the female driver of a red Nissan Sentra, a police officer and a man who complained of chest pains.

Vermaak said the area had been closed to traffic. - Sapa
