David Mokgosi had a premonition he was next on a hitlist of leading members of a West Rand taxi association and told his wife.

Now he is dead.

The 51-year-old Mokgosi was the general secretary of Greater Krugersdorp Taxi Association.

He was shot dead by a group of gunmen outside his Kagiso home on Sunday evening.

Mokgosi's murder comes three months after the deputy chairman of the same association, Thomas Dinkwetse, 49, was also gunned down.

"Since the death of his colleague, my husband has been saying, 'I am the next man on the hitlist'," said a distraught Teresa Mokgosi.

"The whole family was in the house when my husband spoke to a lady outside, who told him about a mysterious minibus full of men, which was driving up and down our road," said Mokgosi.

She said: "After some time, my husband decided to go out and buy airtime.

"The next thing we heard was his van smashing into his other car inside the yard.

"I then heard gunshots and started praying with my daughter Nthabiseng."

After the firing stopped, Mokgosi's other daughter, Lillian, went outside to see what had happened and found her father slumped over the steering wheel.

"Out of panic my daughter thought he was still alive and decided to take him to hospital where he was certified dead on arrival.

"He had suffered multiple bullet wounds to the body," Mokgosi said after seeing her husband's body at the mortuary.
