A Mpumalanga man was shot seven times and killed after he was allegedly caught driving with a woman believed to be his girlfriend in a BMW belonging to the woman's husband on Sunday night.

The dead man, Muzi Nkuna (30), is said to have been in the car, parked on the side of the road at about 9pm, with the woman and a 17-year-old girl when the woman's husband suddenly emerged from nowhere.

An onlooker, who asked not to be identified, told Sowetan that the deceased hastily sped off after spotting the woman's husband, who was driving another BMW. "I saw a real high-speed car chase for the first time, and it was funny because both vehicles were high-powered BMWs," said the onlooker.

He said a short distance away, the chasing BMW grazed against the back of the fleeing one, causing it to lose control.

It went on to crash into a nearby house..

According to eyewitnesses, the husband jumped out of his BMW gun in hand and fired several shots towards the car in which his wife, Nkuna, and the teenager were.

Nkuna was hit seven times all over the body and died on the scene, while the woman and the teenager were both shot in their chests.

They are fighting for their lives at the Nelspruit Medi-Clinic. Police arrested the husband on Monday night and confiscated his firearm. He is expected to appear in the Kabokweni magistrate's court today.

Mpumalanga police spokesman Superintendent Abie Khoabane confirmed that they were investigating cases of murder and attempted murder. "Our investigations will also verify whether the suspect's gun was licensed or not."
