I read with regret the article by Molefi Mika on politicians and soccer (October 4 2007).
Finance Minister Trevor Manuel wrote a letter to Absa, a bank whose affairs are of concern to him . He did not engage the PSL mainly because that is the duty of the minister of sport.
We need not confuse matters here. We must bear in mind that he (Manuel) did not interfere when it was the television rights deal mainly because it was not his domain. The TV rights deal, which concerns the SABC, is the domain of the Department of Communication.
Manuel is simply doing his job. If you as a journalist don't like politicians, it's fine.
