Cop in court for shooting lover

A Limpopo police inspector allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend at the weekend after accusing her of infidelity.

Provincial police spokesman Ronel Otto identified the suspect as Solomon Malika Selota, 47, who was attached to the Bolobedu police station near Modjadjiskloof.

Otto said Selota had gone to visit his girlfriend, Jacqueline Kobela, 31, in Dennilton, near Motetema, when the incident occurred. The couple allegedly had an argument prior to the shooting.

Selota allegedly pulled out his licensed firearm and shot the victim.

She died at the scene. The motive for the killing is not yet known, but sources in the area said Selota suspected the woman of having an affair. - Alex Matlala
