Wits University's Student Representative Council (SRC) would seek a mandate from students after the Wits council took resolutions to resolve a three-day students protest, said SRC president Mbali Hlophe.

Hlophe said there would be a mass meeting to report back to students.

The council passed a resolution condemning the behaviour of students who had intimidated university staff and students and the disruption of academic activities, said spokesman Shirona Patel.

Patel said the council required management to investigate allegations of misconduct and wanted a mechanism to be determined in agreement with the presidents of the current SRC to report back to council on the findings.

She said the university had also revised the upfront registration payment for the 2008 academic year from R5 500 and fixed it at R5000.
