Twenty-eight female guards were unfairly dismissed by a security company because the client‚ Metrora.
Heavy storms on Saturday night claimed a life of a man in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg.
Hassen Wadee, 49, died when a huge tree fell on him not far from his home. A family friend, who asked not to be named, said Wadee was on his way to the mosque when the accident happened.
The friend said it took about three hours to retrieve Wadee's body which was trapped under a tree.
He said Wadee sustained serious injuries in the stomach.
"He had a big cut in the stomach and his intestines were exposed. He had injuries on his face and he also lost a finger," he said.
Wadee had three children and a wife. He was buried yesterday.
Johannesburg Metro police spokesman Wayne Minnaar said major roads were closed because of the trees that had fallen, blocking the roads and posing a danger to motorists.
The roads included the Golden Highway and R554 in Stockwell Avenue and Ennerdale. He said 11 trees fell on the Golden Highway.
