He said the provincial cabinet had conducted an evaluation of what Mpumalanga had achieved since 2004. Makwetla said there were still many challenges that faced the province.
He said the five flagship projects, commonly referred to as the "Big 5", are the:
l Maputo Development Corridor,
l Moloto Development Corridor,
l Heritage Greening and Tourism of the province,
l Water for all by 2010 programme, and
l Accelerated Capacity Building for Civil Servants.
Makwetla said these projects were all aimed at capacity-building and the creation of jobs so that the people of the province could be able to work closer to their homes.
"Our province's development framework must economically rehabilitate our previously disadvantaged areas.
"The N4 highway and the railway line linking South Africa to the Maputo Harbour in Mozambique should be used for export purposes and job creation," he said.
