Security in the offices of the Limpopo department of public works remains questionable after the recent discovery of data lines that were illegally connected.
This follows the discovery of a second data line which was installed in the department's Polokwane offices.
It is feared this could compromise and expose sensitive information to the wrong people.
The line was allegedly connected by a senior manager for Information Technology, Jaster Chimanzi.
Chimanzi, is a Zimbabwean national and has been suspended.
Departmental spokesman Tendani Tshidavhu yesterday confirmed the suspension of a senior official and said investigations were continuing.
"The department of public works in Limpopo has taken steps to suspend one of its senior managers responsible for information technology.
"The decision was taken as a proactive measure in line with the department's fraud and corruption policy," Tshidavhu said.
