Alcohol traders in Polokwane have threatened to take the law into their own hands if the police do not take action against illegal shebeens operating in the area.
They claimed illegal alcohol trading had a negative impact on their businesses.
Spokesman for the area's liquor traders, Terror Mashabathakga, said it was unfair for licensed traders to pay huge amounts of money to operate legally while others could just operate freely without licenses.
Police spokesman Superintendent Ronel Otto said they are unaware of the problem but "the police will investigate".
