An elderly Limpopo man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was stabbed seven times by thugs who had earlier raped his wife yesterday.
The Musina man, 67, who cannot be identified to protect the identity of his 65-year-old wife, was admitted to Musina Hospital where he is in the intensive care unit.
His wife, who was also stabbed once after being raped, was also admitted to the same hospital but released the same day.
Limpopo police spokesman Superintendent Ronnel Otto said the couple were asleep in their house in the early hours of the morning when two men tried to kick down the door.
When the door did not give in, the suspects allegedly used a crowbar to force it open.
Once inside, they overpowered the couple and ordered them to lie down.
One suspect held the man at gunpoint as he lay down while the other suspect forced the wife to undress.
The suspects then allegedly took turns in raping the woman.
When they were done, they ordered her to stand up. When she refused they stabbed her.
They then stabbed the man seven times, stole his cellphone and cash amounting to R610 and fled the scene, added Otto.
Meanwhile, cleaners at a lodge in Polokwane are baffled by the discovery of a lifeless body of a woman in one of the rooms yesterday morning.
The body of Sarah Mathipa, 37, of Zone 5, Seshego was found in the shower by the workers.
Police suspect that Mathipa could have been strangled as there were no visible wounds on her body.
Police are appealing to Pieter Johannes Christian (Petrus) Friedlander, 40, to contact them as they believe he might assist them in the investigations.
If anyone knows of Friedlander's whereabouts they must contact their nearest police station or call Crime Stop at 086-001-0111.
