Michael Morake's family had no idea he was arrested at school for allegedly being an armed robber after he failed to arrive home last week.

Morake, 18, is a Grade 9 pupil, pictured , from Meadowlands, Zone 7.

"I went to the school the next day. The principal told me Michael had been taken away by a policeman who had [said] he was taking my nephew to his guardians," said Michael's aunt, Anna Morake, who insisted that her nephew was not a criminal.

But Inspector Albert Msimango of Meadowlands police station said he jailed Morake in the principal's office and had asked him to tell the boy's family about it.

He said Morake had participated in an armed robbery last month in Zone 9.
