Coaches can't perform miracles

I really feel bad about Orlando Pirates coach Bibey Motombo having resigned.

I felt the same way when good coaches of other teams left because they were blamed for their teams not performing on the field.

Fans of Kaizer Chiefs know that Muhsin Ertugral is a top coach. But nothing is happening and the players are to blame for the losses.

Another example is Jomo Sono. He is a very good coach, but his team Jomo Cosmos has never won the Premier Soccer League.

There is not a coach who knows South African players better than Sono. He chose the best players for his team while he coached Bafana Bafana and though he was the team's best coach, the players kept disappointing him.

Former Pirates coach Costa Papic was also their best coach, but Bucs lost many cups, and the league twice. This goes to show that there's not much a coach can do if players don't perform.

Carlos Alberto Pereira cannot do much if our national team is not serious.

I applaud dedicated teams such as Bloemfontein Celtic and Ajax Cape Town whose players play wonderful football and are well prepared - not because of their coaches - but because they like and enjoy what they do.
