3 robbed of money

People withdrawing large sums of money in Zeerust have fallen prey to robbers since January, North West police said yesterday.

People withdrawing large sums of money in Zeerust have fallen prey to robbers since January, North West police said yesterday.

Superintendent Louis Jacobs said people were targeted after they had withdrawn money from banks.

Samuel Rakade, 56, was killed in January. Police found his body, which had been thrown from a bridge.

In April, 61-year-old Albert Motswagae was also thrown off a bridge in Swartruggens, but he survived, said Jacobs.

Abram Mosiane, in his 50s, has been missing since May.

"In all three incidents, large sums of money were withdrawn from their accounts," said Jacobs.

Rustenburg police made one arrest on Tuesday. The man appeared in court and faced kidnapping, fraud and robbery charges.

His case was postponed to October 3. - Sapa
