Wrestling star wages drugs war

The wrestling star who became the movie action man The Rock, has called on the fighting world to step up drug education programmes to avoid tragedies like the death of Chris Benoit.

The Scorpion King star was devastated when fellow former wrestler Benoit shot himself after killing his wife and son in June while high on a cocktail of drugs.

He is keen for the wrestling world's powers to clean up the sport, adopting a no-tolerance drug policy and creating a new system to educate fighters.

The Rock - real name Dwayne Johnson - said: "There should be an aggressive educational process put in place.

"Even though these guys are grown men and they are responsible for everything they do, they clearly aren't armed with the knowledge they need to understand just how dangerous drugs are.

"Not only are they illegal drugs, but when you mix illegal drugs with that lifestyle, it's a recipe for disaster.

"I know that governing bodies are working towards a zero-tolerance policy. That is so important. And it starts with the parents and the coaches." - Wenn
