UNHCR spokesman Jennifer Pagonis said the shortage would cause cutbacks in providing protection, humanita- rian aid, education and health care in the conflict-torn area.
She said this was because the agency only managed to raise about R49million of the more than R133million needed for assistance.
"We are short of money and lack of funding will have a direct impact on our operations in Darfur," she said.
According to the UNHCR, 250000 Darfuris had been newly displaced this year. There has been no improvement in the security situation in Darfur and more people face displacement.
Most of the camps around West Darfur are full and soon there would be a need to create more sites.
The area is volatile and operations are difficult. This year 77 aid workers have been abducted and about 70 humani- tarian vehicles hijacked.
