The Shoprite Community Network is only one of the many ways in which Shoprite recognises and supports the efforts of the many people who dedicate their lives to uplifting their communities.

Since 2005, the supermarket group has made more than R3million available to various community projects so that they can continue with the fantastic work they do for their communities.

The programme is a community upliftment campaign aimed at recognising South Africans who make a difference in the lives of their people.

Every month the programme is broadcast on several regional radio stations and the public is asked to nominate deserving non-profit organisations in their area such as old aged homes, Aids orphans centres, creches and needy schools. Shoprite has also dedicated a month to needy sports clubs.

Each month, the theme or type of organisations that are voted for are different. The winner in each radio station receives R10000 worth of aid from the group. Each of the 12 winners receives assistance, depending on the organisation's needs.

The programme is broadcast on Saturdays between 8am and 10am on 12 African-language radio stations. Tune in to Lesedi FM, Phalaphala FM, Ukhozi FM, Umhlobo Wenene, Tobela, Munghana Lonene and Motsweding and nominate the organisation that you believe is making a difference, so they can be winners.

What makes this initiative special is that the community makes it possible, because they are the ones who nominate the winners.
