Three men were yesterday convicted in the Vereeniging circuit court for murder and armed robbery at a popular Vaal resort six years ago.
Judge Zukiswa Tshiqi found Lucky Mpungose, 28, Thami Aphane, 36, and Mike Makhunga, 34, guilty of murdering three people when they robbed the popular Emerald Casino in Vanderbijlpark on November 28 2001 of R800000.
They were also found guilty on three counts of attempted murder.
Tshiqi acquitted all three on additional charges of possessing illegal firearms, rifles and ammunition.
The case continues today when the defence for the accused will call witnesses in mitigation of sentence.
