Before hanging himself, Thabo Mohlakoane left a note alleging that his girlfriend was in love with another man, only known as Willie.
He wished his girlfriend and her new lover a prosperous life. He urged her not to cry for him or their child.
The note says Mohlakoane strangled his son, Lentle Maluleka, around 12pm on Monday before hanging himself at his girlfriend's place.
Mohlakoane also begged his mother not to cry for him because taking his and his son's life was the only solution he was left with.
Provincial police spokesman, Captain Havjee Bothma, said police had opened an inquest and a murder docket. - Elisha Molefe
