State must sort out Eskom

Statements by Eskom that people must expect more power outages next winter are very worrying.

Statements by Eskom that people must expect more power outages next winter are very worrying.

It looks as if Eskom has thrown in the towel and has accepted defeat.

What does this mean for the 2010 World Cup?

It can only mean one thing, that our guests will just have to understand as well. I wonder what sort of picture foreigners will take home when the showpiece is over.

The government can still do something about the arrogant Eskom.

What the power supplier is saying is that it is not going to solve the problem and that people must just learn to live with the outages. Well, if that is not arrogance, I don't know what is.

Right now in Soweto, we have houses where power is interrupted from 5.30pm onwards, when everybody gets back from work. My house is one of those affected.

Eskom claims that the outages are caused by residents in informal settlements who connect power illegally. But I have seen many houses that are very far from informal settlements that also experience outages.

The government must do something right now.
