Police in Kokstad, KwaZulu-Natal, have launched a manhunt for a man who allegedly opened fire on three brothers, killing two of them aged 11 and 8.

Police spokesman, Superintendent Zandra Hechter said: "Zoliswa Nodada, 40, allegedly left her house in Mount Currie Drive on Friday at about 6.45pm to attend a church service.

"When she returned at 9pm she found all the lights switched off and the front door wide open.

"Upon entering the house, Nodada discovered the bodies of her two boys, Vuyisa, 11, and Tando, 8, lying on the floor in her bedroom with gunshot wounds to their heads and upper bodies.

"Her 15-year-old son told her later that, while they were sleeping, an unknown man entered the house with two firearms and opened fire.

"He [the son], however, managed to escape," Hechter said.

Shotgun and 9mm cartridges were found at the scene. The motive for the shooting is not known at this stage.

Two murder cases and one attempted murder case are being investigated.

l In a separate incident on Saturday, a man from Bongweni location, also in Kokstad, was arrested for allegedly stabbing two men to death.

Hechter said that there was a social gathering at a house in Bongweni.

"A man went to complain about the gathering but was asked to leave the house," she said.

"He returned later and was met outside by the house owner, Thabani Makhathini, and a friend, Christopher Mbaleni.

Hechter said moments later, screams were heard.

"The other occupants of the house went outside and saw Mbaleni lying on the ground near the gate with a stab wound.

"The suspect was apparently standing next to him with a knife.

"Mbaleni was taken to hospital but died on arrival. Makhathini was also stabbed and also died at the hospital," she said.

The suspect was arrested and will appear in court soon on two charges of murder.
