The Greater Sekhukhune District Municipality in Limpopo has condemned the "violent" behaviour by a group of youths who allegedly disrupted the mayoral imbizo in GaSelepe village in Sekhukhune at the weekend.
The incident happened when executive mayor, Dickson Masemola, was addressing villagers about developmental issues on Saturday.
Instead of joining the community in raising their issues in a civilised manner, the youth "decided to become spoilers".
They allegedly brought down the marquee under which Masemola was to address the villagers.
Police reinforcements had to be called in to calm the situation.
Police spokesman Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said 19 youths had been arrested and charged with public violence.
They will appear in the Mecklenburg magistrate's court today. - Frank Maponya
