Ashwell Prince resigning as president of the South African Cricketers' Association shows how selfish some people are.
Prince protested the leaking of sensitive documents in which black players wanted the quota system scrapped.
He and Makhaya Ntini were on that list. Talk about hypocrites.
I have always had a problem with beneficiaries who, once they become rich and successful, turn around and say they are not quota players. Do they honestly believe that they succeeded because racists who control formerly whites-only sports codes love them? No, they only succeeded because of a system that they no longer want.
I am not sure about the effectiveness of the system because I believe that black players who currently play in the various national teams were chosen on merit. But administrators and selectors don't share my views.
I find it problematic that Ntini and Prince, who benefitted from the system, don't want it for others. That is like being invited to a dinner and once your stomach is full, you instruct the host to stop serving the throngs of hungry people waiting.
How selfish is that? Prince only resigned because of embarrassment. If he endorsed scrapping the system, why is he embarrassed when the information is leaked. Something does not add up.
