Organisations, corporations and cultural entities active in the rejuvenation of the Joburg inner- city will be honoured for their efforts, the Johannesburg Development Agency revealed at a press conference yesterday.
Lael Bethlehem, chief executive of JDA, said the innovative Joburg Halala Awards will be held in Newtown at the end of November.
Nominations for projects will open on Monday and members of the public can download nomination forms from the JDA website www.jda.co.za. The closing date for nominations is November 13, said JDA marketing director Sammy Mafu.
Bethlehem said: "These pioneering awards are in five categories - Living Joburg, Working and Buying Joburg, Relaxing and Playing Joburg, Caring Joburg, and Believing in Joburg. These awards will recognise and celebrate projects which have made a difference in the regeneration of the inner city."
Bethlehem added that the awards will recognise stalwarts of the inner-city who have retained hope in its future and given their full support in keeping its heartbeat alive.
