Three weeks after his genitals were sliced off, a Limpopo boy is still struggling to recover from his injuries.
Eight-year-old Fortune Khumalo, of Jilongo village near Giyani, is still being treated at Dr George Mukhari Hospital in GaRrankuwa.
His penis and testicles were sliced off during the attack last month.
Fortune was attacked by a self-confessed body parts seller, Lucky Simango, 23, who also lives at Jilongo village.
But Simango, who was charged with attempted murder, could not say who his clients were.
Fortune's mother, Nancy Siweya, said from her son's bedside yesterday she was still waiting to hear from the doctors when her son would be operated on.
"I have been here with my son since he was admitted on August 28 but he has not been operated on. Doctors say they will operate Fortune once he starts showing signs of recovery," said Siweya
"My husband and I are unemployed so we cannot afford transport money from Limpopo to Pretoria where Fortune is hospitalised.
"I have to be at his bedside until he is operated on and discharged," she said.
All attempts to get comment from Nolo Nkosi, a spokesman for George Mukhari Hospital, were unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, a trust fund has been set up to help with Fortune's medical expenses. Already R5000 has been raised.
Ronald Hlungwani, the principal of Shingombe Primary School where Fortune is a pupil, appealed for more donations .
