While it is all systems go for the SAA Supa 8 final between Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates at the weekend, the league has warned that no offensive posters, banners and ambush marketing will be tolerated.
The Premier Soccer League's national safety officer, Mfanalo Majola, issued this warning yesterday at a press conference in Parktown, Johannesburg, while urging football lovers to arrive early at the stadium to assist with smooth entry to the game.
Majola was addressing the logistics of the day. Gates will open at 4pm for this all-ticket affair.
"So far 24000 tickets have been sold and we urge people to get there early to avoid disappointment. Those who do not have tickets should not bother coming anywhere near the stadium," he said.
Tickets are selling for R40 for the grandstand, R25 for adults for the rest of the stadium and juveniles will pay R10.
An appeal was made to parents with children to have armbands with their particulars so the parents can be contacted if they get separated.
Majola said that over and above the normally restricted items, banners or flags with either vulgar, racist, sexist, discriminatory or offensive content will be an absolute no-no.
"This is also an SAA event, we cannot allow ambush marketing to mar the day. We also warn the black-market runners not to test the patience of the police since the selling of tickets by individuals is prohibited," he pointed out.
On the other hand, coaches of both teams were in high spirits as they declared a clean bill of health for the squads.
Sundowns' mentor Gordon Igesund said: "For the first time in a long time we have a full quota of players. Godfrey Sapula and Mike Manzini are back at training. The only bother is whether they can last 90 minutes after their long lay-off.
"We are excited, it's been a long time since we played in a final against Pirates and we are desperate for a win and the players are motivated. We have to do it for Gift Leremi's memory."
Bibey Mutombo, coach of Pirates, said this would be an opportunity to try and make their supporters happy.
"This event is very important to us. Of course, they know about bonuses but we work with disciplined players who know what is expected of them. The spirit is good in the camp and the mentality is right. We look forward to the game," Mutombo said.
