Confidence falls

Business confidence is at a three-and-a-half year low but 72percent of those surveyed remain optimistic, a survey sponsored by Rand Merchant Bank and the Bureau for Economic Research found. The business confidence index (BCI) fell eight points from the second to the third quarter of this year. The sharpest declines in confidence were found to be among new vehicle dealers and manufacturers which both fell 13 points.

New vehicle dealers have swung from a high of 99 points at the beginning of last year to a current low of 37 index points. - Staff Reporter
